Onesto Foods: COOKIES!

Onesto Foods: COOKIES!

When we started Onesto Foods nearly 6 years ago, there was intention behind that “s” at the end of “Foods”. We were not meant to be called Onesto Food. We were not meant to stop creating and testing after we brought our gluten-free crackers to the market. We have too great of a love (or a passion) for sharing our delicious, healthy and satisfying food with others. It has always been our plan to test, share, tweak and ultimately turn our family recipes into products we can share with you.

When we were ready to add a new line of products to the Onesto Foods family, we thought it would be fun to say you can “start and end a meal with Onesto Foods”. It’s pretty great when you can start a meal with an antipasto platter of cheeses, meats, olives, fruit and Onesto crackers. And now, it gets even better because you can end that meal with a delicious, decadent, soft-baked Onesto cookie!

The process of creating this cookie recipe was a long journey. But, that phrase is so true: “good things take time”. When I am in the kitchen tinkering away with recipes, I refuse to use preservatives, junk or chemical additives. But, I also refuse to sacrifice taste and texture. There are some great ingredients in these cookies that you might not taste or notice, but are important to the quality of the cookie.

Did you know that…

  • there is ground flaxseed in the cookies?

    • This helps bind the cookie together because there are no eggs in the recipe. Flaxseed also has some amazing health benefits, including added fiber, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and protein.

  • there is prune juice extract in the cookies?

    • This helps preserve the cookie in a natural, organic, non-chemical way. Prune and raisin extract have high levels of malic acid and this helps keep moisture out of the cookie. However, because there are no chemical preservatives in the cookies, we recommend freezing them if you aren’t going to eat them right away.

    • Prune juice also has some great health benefits you might not have known, including high levels of potassium and iron.

  • that our base flour is oat flour?

    • I wanted to create a cookie that was not only delicious, but also satisfying and full of flavor. I wanted a cookie that could stand up to an ice cream sandwich. I wanted to sink my teeth into a cookie and be reminded of my childhood. My mom made the best, thick cookies!

    • Oat flour is loaded with fiber, vitamins and antioxidants…and it tastes damn good too!

These cookies are vegan, gluten-free and full of delicious non-GMO ingredients. But, just because I’m a vegan, it doesn’t mean that I don’t love flavorful foods and sweet treats. The thing that I love most about these cookies is that my family (who is most definitely NOT vegan) loves these cookies as much as I do. Even better…my kids’ friends (also not vegan) devour these cookies (huge compliment in my book).

I hope that you love our cookies as much as we do. I hope that you share them with someone you love. I hope that you make big, thick ice cream sandwiches, huge cookie sundaes or eat them slowly and savor every delicious bite.

With love,

Jane
